How did it all start?
The company's journey began in 2000, with a vision to address a significant gap in the market for affordable, high-quality equipment .REVARO 's founder, Reyno van Rooyen, initially worked as a business management consultant specializing in business turnarounds. In 2009, during a turnaround project for a equipment manufacturing company, van Rooyen identified the challenges companies faced when trying to diversify their products due to high machinery costs. This insight led to REVARO's entry into the equipment market, providing affordable solutions for industries.
Recognizing that pricing was a major barrier, especially for startups, REVARO Equipment set out to offer innovative, cost-effective machinery, helping companies expand their operations and improve efficiency without the financial strain. Over time, the company grew to serve a broad range of customers, positioning itself as a trusted supplier across Southern Africa.
And that's when you saw the opportunity to offer Affordable Innovation?
From my experience with the brick-making project, I recognized a significant gap in the market with the high cost of equipment made it difficult for small medium or large sized enterprises (SMMEs) to enter the industry. Given the government's emphasis on supporting SMMEs, I felt the pricing of equipment was an obstacle for many startups. I decided to explore international markets to find affordable equipment that could be supplied locally at competitive prices. This vision led to the foundation of REVARO Equipment. Our core philosophy is Affordable Innovation.
Where do you source your equipment?
The business started when I decided to fly to China in April 2010, where I identified various factories which could supply us with quality but affordable gear. We have since cast our net wider and we now source our products from India, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Austria and Germany.
We exhibit at trade-shows across Africa to showcase our broad range of affordable, innovative equipment. The wide network of suppliers allows us to source the very best of products. China is very good for certain products, while India is also better in some product areas. The same applies for Turkey, Italy, Germany, Spain and Austria, they all have their strong points. It is very important for us to make sure that we have the right product for each market segment.
How broad is your product range?
REVARO Equipment, initially renowned for its supply of Heavy Duty Yellow Equipment to the Construction, Agriculture, and Mining sectors, has expanded its product offerings. Two key additions have significantly broadened our reach: Agrimech, catering specifically to the agricultural industry with a focus on enhancing farm productivity, and Adventure Leisure, succeeding our former Motorsport sub-company. Agrimech offers a range of equipment designed to enhance farm productivity, visually reflected in the distinctive "Landcruiser" color scheme. Adventure Leisure specializes in Side-by-Sides and quads, streamlining farm operations by assisting with tasks such as cattle herding, efficient field inspections, and convenient transportation across the farm.
You were able to identify opportunity and bridged a crucial gap in the market. What sort of growth have you seen as a business?
The company has become a substantial player in the Equipment, Energy, Material handling, agrimech and mining supply chain in southern Africa. Eight years later since our inception, we now export into multiple countries in SADC. Our biggest export destinations are Zimbabwe, Malawi, DRC, Mozambique and Zambia, as well as Lesotho and Swaziland.
From an affordability point of view, how do you compare with the so-called premium offerings?
At REVARO Equipment, our pricing is typically 50% lower than that of premium suppliers, yet we offer the same equipment output. This significant price difference is one of the key drivers behind our exceptional growth since inception. We believe the market was ready for high-quality, value-for-money products, and this growth is a testament to the demand for affordable yet reliable equipment. We have been able to achieve this success by providing what the market truly needs.
You also have advanced plans to expand the current product offering. Tell me more about that.
As part of our growth strategy, REVARO introduces a new product every year to expand our offering and meet the evolving needs of the market. We are also dedicated to developing a strong dealer network, with more than 40 dealers across Southern Africa. Every dealer we've approached has shown great interest in joining the REVARO family.
From a product standpoint, we already offer a diverse range of equipment , including small loaders, rough-terrain forklifts, skid steer loaders, telescopic loaders, and telehandlers. We have recently expanded our product line to include side-by-side recreational vehicles. This broad and profitable product range ensures that REVARO dealers can offer high-quality solutions to customers, making it an excellent opportunity to be part of the REVARO Equipment network.
